Mount It Like Trail Equipment

Careful mounting makes the difference between a rack that stays tight through a season and one that rattles loose after three rolls. Begin by positioning the rack with the body installed on the chassis. Look at tire compression, cage clearance, opening panels, and the driver's visual line if the build includes a scale interior. A rack can be technically centered but still look wrong if it does not follow the vehicle's roofline.

Mark all holes, remove the body, and drill gradually. Clean holes prevent cracking and give screws a better seat. Use hardware that matches the scale and intended load. After the first run, inspect every mounting point. Titanium tubing may remain perfectly straight while the body material beneath it settles or flexes. Retighten only as needed. Crushing the body with excessive screw tension is not strength - it is a future failure point.

Build the Rack Around Useful Equipment

Secure every item mechanically. Glue alone may hold on a shelf, but water, mud, heat, and rollovers quickly expose weak mounting methods.

Avoid mounting a heavy spare tire on the roof unless the build is primarily for scale presentation. A spare adds height, catches obstacles, and creates leverage during a rollover. A rear carrier, bed mount, or chassis-mounted alternative is often the better solution for drivers who want both realism and controlled handling.
